Shortly after I joined, my focus was transferring the accounting from our external accounting provider in house as well as building up the accounting team. Main responsibilities within this role: Manage multiple accounting functions and operations such as General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, revenue, asset, cost and tax accounting according to Local GAAP (HGB) and group reporting guidelines; Manage month and year end closing; Prepare monthly financial statements: Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow and support Head of Finance with ad hoc data; Responsible for the VAT return process; First point of contact for tax advisors and auditors; Working closely with the accounting and controlling teams to analyze accounting data, ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance; Act as the main point of contact for the internal stakeholders in all accounting related questions; Drive the definition and standardization of the accounting processes; Act as project manager towards the implementation of a new accounting software, SAP by Design;

Participate in the monthly general ledger and financial closing process for Spark entities, including preparing and/or approving journal entries, reconciling assigned accounts, and reviewing and analyzing assigned Financial Statements in accordance with IFRS and HGB standards; Provide insightful, value added analytics to ensure all entries are recorded properly and errors or anomalies are identified, addressed and communicated in a timely manner; Ensure close process is well coordinated and executed in accordance with the monthly closing checklist; Supporting the accounting team's commitment to timely and accurate reviewing of transactions in accordance with US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley; Support in any statutory or group audit requirements; Assist in the development and implementation of internal processes and controls; Lead ad hoc projects as assigned; Communicating with other departments on accounting related matters;
