About John

I’m a self-shooting producer/director of visually arresting and journalistically rigorous documentaries across a range of genres for the BBC, Channel 4 UK, ITV UK, CNN, Discovery and PBS. I specialise in culture, travel, current affairs, science, and technology.

I directed and shot a highly controversial Dispatches for Channel 4 that exposed financial links between the House of Lords and Russian Oligarchs, as well as a BBC Panorama about one of the biggest stories of recent years - the radioactive poisoning of Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko.

My credits include numerous projects for Discovery, including episodes of The Unexplained Files, which featured extensive movie-level drama recon, Life on the Line, an observational series about factory production and How Do They Do it?, a popular science show.

In addition to my experience making fast-turnaround, high-profile current affairs, I worked for two years as a director on the BBC's flagship Arts programme, The Culture Show. I've also shot films for BBC Reel, CBS, CNBC as well as flagship Discovery medical series Body Bizarre. My treatments have been stylish, innovative, and format-driven.

I’m also an award-winning journalist, writing for the Guardian, the Financial Times, The Sunday Times, The Independent, the Observer, and other British newspapers.

I self-shoot on most 4K+ Sony, Canon, Blackmagic cameras. My kit comprises of two Sony A7s iii cameras with Sennheiser Pro and DJI sound, litepanels, gimbal, and drone. I edit to broadcast standard on Premiere Pro.
