Sky - SKY

Director  - As a freelancer

March 2006 - May 2006 (2 months)

Having finished my service in the British Army I decided to retrain as a film maker. Without the benefit of well off parents, and no equipment, I decided to borrow an old camera and taught myself filming techniques. After some very bad first attempts, I managed to get a commission to go to Nepal to film and artist for the SKY channel SKY ARTS. I owe the start of my TV career to the daring commissioners at SKY who were willing to take a risk on a new Director, with no experience whatsoever. The film was played on SKY across its whole network for 5 years and was ranked as one of their most popular specialist documentaries. It's 1 hour long and the whole thing has now been kindly uploaded to Youtube by a fan. The independent company who managed the commission were called HiTelevision.

Angry Bear Films

Kayak Expedition Member/Film Maker  - As a freelancer

Sri Lanka

November 2005 - January 2006 (2 months)

I raised in partnership with a leading kayak sportswomen, £13000 in hard and soft sponsorship to support a sea kayak circumnavigation of the embattled island of Sri Lanka. I coordinated the export of two expedition sea kayaks to Colombo and negotiated access via the Government of Sri Lanka and the Tamil Tiger leadership in Kilinochi to access the coastline of the entire country. When my partner pulled out, I paddled alone until I reached Unawatuna. Ignoring the advice of the FCO, I travelled to Kilinochi to confirm access with the Tamil Tigers. I was trapped for 3 days as their 'guest', escaping by tuk tuk. The border closed and conflict escalated so I was unable to return. I will return and finish the journey.
